Government approves zero egg import duties for January–June

MOSCOW/ANKARA, Dec 13 (PRIME) -- The state sub-commission for customs and tariff regulation has approved annulment of the customs duty on imports of 1.2 billion eggs from January 1 until June 30, 2024, the Economic Development Ministry said on Wednesday.

"Introduction of a tariff preference of exemption from payment of the import customs duty on edible chicken eggs imported to the territory of the Russian Federation in the amount of up to 1.2 billion units from January 1, 2024 until June 30, 2024 was supported," the statement read.

"The preference will be provided subject to confirmation of the intended purpose of the imported goods," the sub-commission said.

The Agriculture Ministry issued a statement saying that it expects the egg prices to stabilize in a month thanks to imports from Azerbaijan and Turkey.

Egg prices soared by 42.4% since the beginning of the year until December 4.

Head of Turkey’s Egg Producers Union Ibrahim Afyon told PRIME that Turkey was ready to satisfy Russia's demand for eggs fully and that the exports had already started.

"In total, 21 Turkish companies received an approval to send eggs to Russia, three have already started the supplies," Afyon said.
